Jim Goodwin amazed at Dundee Utd and Raith Rovers TV blackout despite clear BBC snub explanation
Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin believes Scottish football has missed a trick by not televising their top of the table Championship clash with Raith Rovers
BBC Scotland has decided to show Ayr United v Airdrie on Friday night instead and the good thing from Goodwin’s point of view is that it remains a 3pm kick-off on Saturday. The issue the broadcasters have is that they have an agreement for a maximum number of home games per club and they are keeping one Tannadice game up their sleeve for the title run-in.
Goodwin confirmed: “I know that the BBC have a certain number of games that they can choose over the course of a season. I think it would have been a good one for TV. No doubt it would have been a great advert for the Championship – two good sides, two attacking teams. It would have been a good game to broadcast, but it is what it is. I prefer to have it on a Saturday at 3 o’clock anyway.”
Raith Rovers have been labelled as he surprise package in the Championship, as they have pushed United all the way and are just a point behind with a game-in-hand. Goodwin, however, reckons with the increased investment that the new owners have put in since the summer that they were always going to be a force to be reckoned with.
He explained: "Raith Rovers have done brilliantly; recruited really well and with a good injection of finance. "You can see they’ve been able to bring in a really good quality of player.
“We were always going to be everybody’s favourites because of the size of the club. “Raith Rovers are no mugs. “We didn’t under-estimate them at the start of the season. “I saw the players they were signing, the increase in their budget and I knew they would be a decent team. “There is pressure on everybody at both ends of
